As veteran Ravindra Jadeja stepped down as captain of CSK for the IPL 2022 Championship Stage, Dhoni was reappointed captain of the Yellow Brigade. Under Dhoni, CSK won four times in the lucrative league. While Dhoni’s CSK will open the season against Gujarat Titans (GT), record-breaking champions Mumbai Indians will start their lucrative league season on Sunday against title-defending Bangalore Team (RCB) Royal Challengers.

Rohit was asked about the Dhoni retirement rumours while speaking to the media at a MI pre-season news conference. “I’ve been hearing for the last 2-3 years that this is going to be MS Dhoni’s last season. I think he is fit enough to play a few more seasons”, At the press conference, Rohit spoke to the reporter.

“He (Bumrah) is a big miss. But it’s an opportunity for the youngsters in the team.I don’t want to put too much pressure on the youngsters. Leading up to the first game, guys know what their role is, the last thing we want to do is put pressure on them. For guys who haven’t played the IPL before, there are quite a few guys, and if they get an opportunity, I would love to keep it simple for them,” Rohit added.

According to Rohit, pace ace Jasprut Bumrah will be greatly missed by the Mumbai Indians in the upcoming lucrative league season. Bumrah is undergoing back surgery and will miss the entire IPL season. Bumrah also missed the Asian Cup and the T20 World Cup last year due to back problems. England’s Jofra Archer will lead Rohit’s fast Mumbai Indians attack at IPL 2023 in place of speed demon Bumrah.
