Lionel Messi’s prospective return to the club this summer has received high praise from Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski.

Messi’s potential return to the Camp Nou, where he rose to fame, has been mentioned frequently. The Argentine legend played 778 games for the Blaugrana, scoring 672 goals and dishing out 303 assists.

After this weekend’s Ligue 1 season finale, the PSG forward is expected to decide on his future. With his farewell match against Clermont Foot tomorrow (June 3), he will be leaving Parc des Princes. In 40 games during his final season with the Parisians, he scored 21 goals and added 20 assists.

Lewandowski made a brief mention of the rumours surrounding Lionel’s likely comeback to the team. Through Managing Barca, he stated: “We have to wait a few days to see if Leo comes back. We may know more in the next few days. It would be fantastic!”

The 35-year-old has made the decision not to extend his deal with PSG. Barcelona, Inter Miami, or Al Hilal are the only three viable choices for the 2022 FIFA World Cup champion.

Barca has made it known in the public that they are interested in parting ways with Lionel. Xavi, the manager of the Catalan giants, stated that the Argentine was willing to re-join the Blaugrana, saying: “Leo Messi will decide his future next week. He has 100% my OK to join us. He knows we’re ready to welcome him. Nothing has changed, we have chances. We want Leo here. Let him decide. I’m ready to include him in our system.”

Al Hilal, who are desperate to sign the illustrious forward, are posing strong competition for Messi. The PSG attacker and the major Saudi Pro League clubs have reportedly reached a personal agreement, according to L’Equipe. He would start at King Fahd International Stadium with a record-breaking remuneration of €600 million per year and a two-year deal with an additional year option.

Barcelona still has money problems and has to cut €200 million from their salary budget. Lionel Messi would play alongside Lewandowski for the first time if they were able to get their financial act together and reunite. The Polish striker, who has previously scored 33 goals in 45 appearances for Xavi’s team, may thrive with the Argentine’s inventiveness.

“In the period since I started playing football at the professional level, Messi and Ronaldo have been at the top. It’s always been a duel between the two. The question between them is simple: who likes which type of player?”

Lewandowski expressed his thoughts and clarified why Ronaldo had to work more to succeed: “It’s difficult. I respect Cristiano Ronaldo’s hard work. For Messi, everything seems easy. I think Cristiano had to work harder for his success.”

In the course of his career, Ronaldo has played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, Sporting CP, and now Al Nassr. In 968 club games, he’s scored 715 goals and provided 225 assists. Five times, he has won the Ballon d’Or.

Before moving to PSG in 2021, Lionel Messi spent the majority of his career with Barcelona. Seven times winner of the Ballon d’Or, he has 710 goals and 339 assists in 874 games.
