The NBA player declared before the game, “It’s gonna be the first time I’m rooting against Messi.”
“I expect both teams to play at a high level, but at the end of the day… When i was playing in the NBA Finals two years ago I enjoyed every single minute. You can never have this moment back, you can never take it for granted, you never know if you’re going to be here again at this stage, so, playing a final game against one of the greatest players to ever play this game, I know that our guys are going to come out, play hard, play together and try to get a win.”
The first-ever Leagues Cup will also be awarded to the victor of Saturday’s match between Nashville SC and Inter Miami, who will both be going head-to-head for the first trophy of their careers.
The NBA star wasn’t the only famous person present; prior to the game, Reese Witherspoon and David Beckham, the owner of Inter Miami, were photographed along with Nashville SC owner and fellow owner Nashville SC.
Following the conclusion of the Leagues Cup, Miami will focus on their return to MLS and the U.S. Open Cup, where they will play FC Cincinnati in the semifinals on Wednesday.
