In a video that has gone viral, Ruben Dias can be seen defending Cristiano Ronaldo from an intruder on the pitch during Portugal’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Iceland.

In Dias, Cristiano appears to have found a new bodyguard, so he may not need to search elsewhere for protection. In Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Iceland, the legendary Portuguese player made his 200th and final appearance for Portugal.

Dias has been a dependable player for Portugal and City over the past year. In their European qualifying group J matches, he has helped Roberto Martinez’s team maintain its unblemished record. With four victories in a row, they have yet to allow a goal.

The Portuguese defender also played a key role in Pep Guardiola’s team’s incredible continental treble triumph. In 43 games across various leagues, he helped his team retain 21 clean sheets.

In order to draw the supporter back before security quickly took over, the Manchester City defender grabbed him by the shirt. The fact that Dias helped stop the pitch invader, though, has earned him praise.

The incident was posted on Twitter by Ronaldo fan account @CristianoXtra. They captioned it: “Ruben Dias – The new bodyguard of Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Milestone: 200 Games for Portugal and Counting

Even in the later phases of his career, Cristiano Ronaldo is still breaking records. Guinness World Records recognised the legendary forward as the first player in history to win 200 international matches.

After the win over Iceland, the 38-year-old posted on Instagram to share his joy at making 200 appearances. He posted a video montage of some of his favourite Selecao memories with the caption: “𝟐𝟎𝟎 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 with the same commitment, dedication, and responsibility, just like the first time I played with this jersey. I am here, continuing to score, pursuing my dream and giving my all for the team and for our country. Por amor a Portugal.”

With 123 goals, Cristiano Ronaldo holds the record for the most goals scored at the international level. With Iran, he surpassed the 109 goals scored by the previous record holder Ali Daei in 2021.

The renowned striker took home the 2016 European Championship trophy. Next year in Germany, he is determined to repeat this behaviour.
