Messi and Haaland Lead the Race for the Champions League in 2023

UEFA have announced their shortlist for the season’s finest Champions League goal. The nominees are Karim Adeyemi’s goal against Chelsea, Rodri’s goal against Bayern Munich, and Mbappe’s goal against Juventus. The scorcher by Kevin De Bruyne against Real Madrid and the amazing goal by Vinicius Junior versus Manchester City are also among the nominees.

Other nominees include Alejandro Grimaldo’s goal against Maccabi Haifa, Darwin Nunez’s audacious finish against Real Madrid, Haaland’s goal against Dortmund, and Lionel Messi’s strike against Benfica.
Manchester City won the Champions League this season by defeating Inter Milan 1-0 in the final at Istanbul’s Ataturk Stadium on June 10. The victory was the Premier League club’s first ever UCL victory.
Messi’s PSG, meanwhile, were ousted from the round of 16 after falling to Bayern Munich 3-0 on aggregate over two games.
Ballon d’Or 2023: Messi and Haaland Poised for Epic Showdown
Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland are among the favourites to win the Ballon d’Or this season. The Norwegian was at the forefront of Manchester City’s treble-winning season. This season, he scored 52 goals in all competitions, including a Premier League record 36 and 12 in the UEFA Champions League. The 22-year-old was sensational in his debut season with Manchester City.
Leo Messi, on the other hand, had a disappointing season with PSG, scoring 20 goals and setting up 21 more in 41 games across all competitions. He did, however, play a key role in Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup victory, scoring seven goals and assisting on three others.
Lionel Messi recently stated about the Ballon d’Or 2023 (via @AlbicelesteTalk Twitter): “Does the Ballon d’Or matter to me? No, it’s no longer important to me. I’ve always said, the individual prizes are not what matters to me, but the collective ones are the most important. The most important prize at the moment is the World Cup, the greatest prize for me.”
