Lionel Messi has been left out of PSG squad but Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are included
Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) Lionel Messi was left out of the Coupe de France squad against Pace de Kassel, while Kylian Mbappe and Neymar were included. Apart from Messi, another notable absence is Gianluigi Donnarumma. According to RMC Sport, they were released to rest.
Young Hugo Ekitike could have a chance to shine in Christophe Galtier’s attacking squad in Messi’s absence. At the same time, the Keylor Navas are able to find speed between clubs. On January 19, the Costa Rican made his debut for the team in the Riyadh Season Cup at the King Fahid International Stadium.
Lionel Messi has been fantastic for Paris this season. In 21 games, the Argentine superstar has scored 13 goals and provided 14 assists. He also scored against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Riyadh side. However, the goal did not count towards his official total for the season.
Hugo Ekitike could get a rare start against Pays de Cassel as he is likely to be paired with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. Ekitik has scored 4 goals and delivered 1 assist this season. He was also part of the starting XI in PSG’s 1-0 away loss to Stade Rennais on January 16.
Paris Saint-Germain will need Messi, Neymar and Mbappe to be at their best as they approach a crucial moment in the season. After 19 league matches, Paris Saint-Germain are only 3 points ahead of Lens, second in the standings. An important phase of the campaign is about to begin in a competitive Ligue 1 season.
A trio of attacking superstars in Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe will have to lead the charge if the Parisians are to retain their French title. On February 14, Galtier’s side will also face Bayern Munich in a key match of the Champions League Round of 16. So, it goes without saying that the team needs its big names to have a successful season.
