Home of the two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders, Eden Gardens has been the ideal home for KKR fans for the past 15 years. The stadium was blessed with many fans wearing KKR’s purple and gold jerseys showing their support for the winning and losing team. However, the venue was given a yellow shirt on Sunday. Eden has never been like KKR’s home ground as Chennai Super Kings fans could get a glimpse of “The man, the myth, the legend”, MS Dhoni. The famous arena is filled with “Dhoni” chants and many banners calling to watch the his kick.

Similar to the previous match, MS came to the end of the match with 3 balls for CSK. It was well received by the crowds in Kolkata and the audience numbers on these platforms increased rapidly. Dhoni thanked the people of Kolkata for their support after CSK’s persuasive demonstration in dropping another retirement bomb.
“I will just say thanks for the support, they came in big numbers. Most of these guys will come in a KKR jersey next time. They are trying to give me a farewell, so thanks a lot to the crowd,” he remarked.

At the Eden Gardens, KKR was chasing 236 when, in the 15th over, a well positioned Jason Roy threatened to lead the visitors to what may have been a miraculous or freakish chase. The score of 235 was the best ever recorded by a team at the Eden Gardens and the third highest score in IPL history for CSK. Since they were chasing an impossible total, KKR was kept in the game by Roy’s thunderous fifty until the 14th over, when they scored 127 runs for four wickets.

The show-stealing celebration by Dhoni overshadowed CSK’s joy and Theekshana’s happiness. Dhoni immediately shouted a loud “Yes” as the wicket fell, evidently irritated by Roy’s superb striking. Even ex-India cricketer Murali Kartik, who was on live, called it out and said it was a “rare” behaviour from Dhoni.
