The most coveted individual trophy in football is called the Ballon d’Or. The best-performing football player in a season receives it from the French news publication France Football. This trophy has developed into a symbol for the height of individual success in the sport of football over time.

Votes cast by media representatives, captains of the national teams, and coaches combine to choose the Ballon d’Or winner. Taking home the trophy is an honour reserved for only the finest players to ever lace up a pair of boots.

This competition this year is as thrilling as ever, and it’s hard to predict who will win the prestigious award. Who will win ballon d’or 2023 according to you?

#5 Kevin De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester City’s main architect, had yet another outstanding season to add to his impressive resume. The legendary Belgian midfielder is still going strong in his 30s despite having crossed that threshold. The title of best midfielder of his generation has now been mostly earned by him.

For City this season, De Bruyne was in great form and was essential to their success in winning the European Triple. In 49 games across all competitions for the Cityzens in the 2022–23 season, he notched 10 goals and an astounding 31 assists.

#4 Kylian Mbappe

Mbappe’s 2022–2023 season had the potential to be truly exceptional, but it fell just short. The World Cup final heartbreak and an early Champions League loss have become blemishes on the Frenchman’s otherwise highly successful campaign.

Mbappe completed an unbelievable hat trick in the championship match against Argentina while also taking home the Golden Boot at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Due to his prodigious goal-scoring abilities, the Frenchman continues to be a dangerous presence in the attacking third and causes chaos practically every time he plays.

In 43 appearances across all competitions for PSG in 2022–23, the 24-year-old scored 41 goals and contributed 10 assists. Although he is considered for the Ballon d’Or this year, the competition is likely to win.

#3 RodriNetherlands

Perhaps the best holding midfielder in the world right now is Rodri. Rodri is able to do the duties of two midfielders without even breaking a sweat because to his exceptional technical ability and great game intelligence.

He started more games in all competitions than any of his colleagues during the 2022–23 season as a key player for City. In contrast to the finest teams in Europe, Rodri’s cool and collected play style allowed City to control play in the middle of the field.

In the Champions League final against Inter Milan, the 26-year-old also scored the winning goal for City. Rodri went on to play a significant part in helping Spain win the UEFA Nations League in June after his team, City, completed the continental treble.

An appearance on the Ballon d’Or podium this year is justified for the Spain international.

#2 Lionel Messi

In the 2022–23 season, Messi gave it everything he had to try and win a record-extending eighth Ballon d’Or. He led Argentina to victory at the World Cup and was awarded the Golden Ball as he left.

With 41 games in all competitions and 21 goals and 20 assists, Messi was also in excellent form for Paris Saint-Germain. He’s had a fantastic season and has a strong chance of repeating as the top individual football player this year.

The best foreign player in Ligue 1 during the season is Leo Messi.

#1 Erling Haaland

Haaland’s chances of defeating Messi for the 2023 Ballon d’Or are still up for debate. But he’d be the one to pull it off. To put it mildly, the 2022–23 campaign for Haaland has been incredible.

In 53 games in all competitions for Manchester City during their continental treble victory, he not only scored a staggering 52 goals but also contributed nine assists. Haaland, who is only 22 years old, still has the entirety of his football career ahead of him, and he has a chance to go down in history as one of the greatest players ever.

The voyage would be well-suited to begin with a Ballon d’Or victory in his first season in the Premier League.
